I whipped up this commercial to advertise my guild, hope you like it! I think Sureshot has one in development, but I just had to take a bash at it. Besides, two are better than one!

Nicely done. Bit too much emphasis on Jedi/Sith but i guess you can only work with what you've got.

Wow, I didn't think you'd all be that pleased
Yeah, I had few clips of Bounty Hunter action, so I resorted to Sith and Jedi. Besides, we do have a jedi/sith or two in the guild.

I've just sent you a message about this Harly, but thanks for doing the vid anyway.
Just as a quick reminder to anyone else... from now on will people please remember to consult with me first before going ahead and making decisions for the guild? Please remember that this IS one of the guild rules.
Thanks.
p.s. Harly is there anyway you can change you posts on the recruitment threads? .

Good effort Harl, wish I knew how to do that stuff! Maybe you could post a how-to in the help section?
A bit of constructive criticism... A thing that stood out for me is that although it's good, it doesn't really represent us as a clan in terms of who we are and what we do. From the clips and wording it could be a sort of Jedi 'A-team' advert. And though I think I detect a sw music sample in the background of that dance tune, the music kind of takes you out of the Star Wars vibe.
But having said all that I'm glad you've shown us what's possible and I expect great things form your next clip!

Yeah, I'm working on it, tweaking it. I'm afraid that it didn't have many clips to work with, so I had to use force-users. Besides, we do have them about, like Nex. Sureshot has told me that I'm not to make another without his authorisation, though with that said, he offered for me to be the offical BfH youtube channel-lad, so it's not all bad.
And yeah, I'll post a how-to some time or another.

I think thats what put me off about it. It came across that we were some sort of freedom fighters rather than a legitimate (or illegitmate I should say) contract agency. Also we're not called Blasters For Hire hehe! 'Tis good though I have to say and I appreciate the effort that went into making it. I'll explain a in a sec the kinda thing I'm looking to do so people know for the future.

Yeah thats why I said in my post yesterday that I'm going to wait til after the game goes live. We'll have a lot of actual in game footage of our guild in action, so I reckon that'll look really tasty. But yeah if you're looking to start up a YouTube video channel that'll be dead handy mate!
Right now onto what I'm looking at doing........
First off I'm planning on starting the video with a self made title screen with the guild backstory on it. It'll probably look similar to this hand made one:
Theres a really handy tutorial on how to do it in Photoshop and After Effects on YouTube, but unfortuantely I don't have Adobe After Effects!!! I may have to do some serious searching around for it.
Anyway, after the title sequence and brief introductional story for the guild, I'm planning on putting in some in-game footage of the guild in action. Hopefully I'll make a vid of the 2 departments against each other, so we can spend as much time making it as we want. Last but not least I like what Harly did with the planet logo and I was debating doing the same at the end of the vid, but now on teh logo it'll have the site url (which is still to be changed remember).
Music wise, I agree with Red and it'll probably be John William's "Hyperspace" although that hasn't been decided on:
Well thats my ideas thus far! If anyone has a copy of After Effects please let me know, you could be a life saver!!
p.s. I'm moving this into guild discussion.

Yes, but the beta will be a long time in production, let alone the full version so the promo may end up taking a year! I would like permission to work on the current commercial - the offical one. In any case, please give me constructive critisism.

Harly, I've just said that it'll be worked on when the game goes live and thats what will be done. The promo video isn't for recruiting so we don't have to worry about it. It's pretty much just some extra fluff much like Lunarwolf has kindly done with the 3-D pictures as it pumps a little bit more life into the guild. To be honest seeing a clip made of up of all the seperate TOR videos is nice plus it's very well done and I commend you on it, but how much of the guild does it actually reflect?
I have given you some constructive critiscm and I gave the opportunity to work on other videos in the future. I've even sent you a message asking for your assistance on the official video and turned the other cheek that it was released without me being aware of it. I can't see how much fairer I can be to be honest.

Yes, thank you for being understanding - now, lets get directing!
1) A Star Wars scroll is cliche but it is great at getting large amounts of fluff out of the way. Alternitively, we could put up fluff running alongside the actual film, however, this may be distracting, but depending how we put the clips together, the narration and the footage could mesh really well together and be great. The added bonus to the scrolling is that it's really popular amongst Star Wars fans, so this can be used to our advantage. After the scroll, we could always pan down to one of the worlds that we'll be on.
2) That baseline song that you've chosen if good for the topic, it's dynamic, but not over the top and is star wars-y so that's good. It's a nice choice and I think we should stick with it, however, if we're going to take the star wars scrolling, we'll also need the main theme tune to go with it.

First things first, can you edit your post please? Because at the minute it looks as if thats the official guild promotion trailer. Thanks.

Done and dusted!
And yeah, I've seen HoD's trailer - yeah, they're good. They had some nice effects I don't have, but I guess it's visa versa aswell.
EDIT: Just a note to say that I'm in production of a 2nd Blasters for Hire commercial, drawing on the feedback that you've provided for me. Thanks again. This time, it will be released as the Unoffical "Agency" Commercial and will be directed at both potential recruits and clients. I will be showing Sureshot a copy of the end product for his evaluation.

Thanks Harly! Oooo new video eh? Sounds good. Yeah I look forward to seeing the end result. If you need any help with a small backstory please let me know.
On the subject of videos, has anyone else seen the Praxeum's trailer? It was done back when they were the Order of Ashla and its really rather good:

*weeps with nostalgia* KOTORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
ah, Kotor.
Great video, that. Very original!
Only slight gripe I would have with it is that they are promoting the Jedi yet there is some serious Force Lightening use toward the end there - bad jedi, naughty jedi! get back in your box...

Well spotted! Didn't see that there. Force Lightning eh? A Jedi craves not these things....I do though.

Well we're certainly getting there mate! I'll give you a lowdown of what I like and what I don't like:
WHAT I LIKE:
The cutscenes are a lot better and more mercernary like now, I especially like the image of the Kel Dor Bounty Hunter emerging through that circle.
Music is a LOT better now.
The 'Hire only the best" comment was a nice touch.
WHAT I'M NOT SO KEEN ON:
The only thing that I feel is really letting it down is the font for the wording used. To me it takes away the feel of it being Star Wars. Is there anyway of using a Star Wars font to narrate the video? Also some of the words are captilised in the wrong places.
I wasn't too keen on the narration content used. For example "Couriers" and "Jedi" seemed a bit out of place, and I don't think it represents the guild for what it truly is.
The last shot of the planet with the blasters on it. I do like that picture and I do want it included but I think it's best if we leave "Blasters For Hire" and "The Agency" off of the promo completely. I'm thinking when we're completely happy with it this will be a nice teaser video, and as we don't have a name it suits it's purpose as just that.
Right now onto where I think we should go from here. As we have a few members here that have a fairly good imagination and vision I think it might be nice to get a few others onboard. Redwatch is the creative director so I'm wondering if he would like to give us some pointers on the style of the fonts etc. I have got my own idea of how it would look nice but I'm not sure how it would be implemented into the video. Secondly, I'm thinking of grabbing someone to help me write out the background narration for it (Black Heart? Lunarwolf?),. I'm sure working to ether we'd all come out with some great ideas. All we need then is for you Harly to play George Lucas for a bit and we'll have a crackin' video!
So yeah my first proposal would be to start a storyboard. This way I think we could choose what goes where out of the images you've provided and what is actually said in the commercial. Anyone else think thats a good idea?
