| Ventrilo is an online voice communication application, like teamspeak, set up to help a team strategize and fraternize while playing a game. But truly, we just use it as another chat room when we're hanging out or discussing something. Something that isn't as public as the chatbox here on the forums and, like Red said, we can peddle a little smut too inappropriate for the site. Come check it out, I've set up a guide right hurr. You might want to wait until I have the normal server back it up which could be later today. | |

| I've never used voice chat in an MMO before. I've always stayed clear of it. I've never been to keen on it to be honest. I have used it on the PS3 AND 360, but find it really strange and awkward. I'm a very, very shy and quiet person in real life and it takes me a long while to feel comfortable talking to someone face-to-face. I avoid phones/mobiles when ever I can. I will try and find a mic somewhere and give this a try though, but I don't think I'll be using it that much in game, if at all. If thats ok? | |

| Well, the purpose of Vent is to bypass any possible "chat" restriction BioWare put in place to stop factions talking to one another - something which makes sense in an MMO in general but would suck royally in SW due to the fact almost everyone can speak galactic basic - so It makes sense if we can all speak to each other and give the game devs the finger! Mind you, I think you're the only one who has issues about hearing themselves across Vent and ths system does have a "Text-to-speech" capabaility, so if you are the only one in this perdicament we'll all hear the feminine "speak-and-spell" over the chat and know it is you | |

| Yup, it's completely optional and no one is being forced to use it. What I will ask though is that people join up anyway though cause if we ever get to the stage of raiding (which I'm sure we will) then it'll be handy if people can at least hear each other. You don't have to say a word if you don't feel the need but it'll probably help matters if people can at least here what others have to say. Actually come to think of it I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing!! I can see it now.....everyone singing Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf" and discussing the long term effects of sniffing Ewok dung. | |

| Hehe, thanks Priory. It's really usually quite simple, the only taxing part is leaving my computer. But I always stay efficient constantly downloading "legal" programming.
By the way, back in the seven six

| What do you guys think about this as a voice-comm client?
GSC Games Client
It appears easier to use than Ventrillo and it's free.

| Any reason why you want to use this instead of Xfire? It looks like it's trying to be an xfire alternative; it's doing all the same things. Since Xfire is an established standard within most gaming communities wouldn't it make sense to use Xfire instead? |

| Personally I never use X-Fire 'cause I don't get on with it but I wasn't aware that it had voice communication as well. Maybe it's worth giving it a shot then. | |

| Steam has free voice-chat, you can sign up for nothing and not buy a single game for it, yet can still use the voice-chat system. Worth a look? | |

Good point! then we will know when each of us are online. My only concern is I don't know if there is a limit of how many people you can have in voice-chat at one time. Chances are SWTOR will be available through steam anyway so they'll definately support it in-game.

| Well I know at the minute we don't need it untill maybe we do some raiding on DAD? but it seems odd atm to use another program when members are already using xfire which works just as well? If we all have to pick one it would seem better for the few of us who don't use it just to go xfire then all of us move to a new client, thats my opinion anyway I'm on xfire now as prioryjk | |
