I'm not a big Star Trek fan, just because I don't know much about it. But I am a big J.J. Abrams fan. I'll definitely see it. Probably after opening weekend, though.

I grew up watching Star Trek Voyager and later watched the other series. It is was got me interested in Sci-Fi and you bet I'll be watching the movie. Im just a little afraid that they will try to make it a bit to appealing to a wider audience and lose some of its Trekieness.

I agree what you think about making the wider audience.

I'm bound to watch this (probably wait for blu-ray) cos I love Star Trek but the trailer I've seen doesn't endear it to me. Makes it seem like Lost In Space meets Master and Commander (in space) with a dash of MI3 (in space) with teenie-boppers (who are in space).
I'm still looking forward to it, mind . Though I can't see why people make such a fuss over Abrams. A vastly overrated talent imo.

Heck, I'd watch it for Simon Pegg's scottish accent and Sylar as Spock alone!

*MS Anna* Agreed!
Yeah thats one of the main reasons I want to see it funnily enough. 'Spaced' in Space! Sylar really looks the part for Spock as well. Come to think of it the only two characters I truly cared for in the original series was Spock and Scotty. I'd rather have seen another Next Gen movie to be honest but I'll probably wait 'til it comes out on DVD *cough* torrent! I've got bigger things to see on my to-watch list. These two come to mind:

Ive got my prediction that Salvation is the best movie of the summer. It looks pretty amazing.
Also that trailer you posted for it is was one of best trailers ive ever seen. The song in it is so perfect for it.

Star Trek was so much better than I had hoped.
Awesome plot, exceptional CG, some awesome cast choices...and its part of 3!
GO SEE IT.
That is all.

I went to see this last night with a trekkie nut, he was a bit dissapointed I thought it was pretty good, not brilliant though. I really liked the new look of it and the cast was great but it does have some huge plot-holes, questionable laws of physics and merrily waves goodbye to a ton of the cannon

I respectfully disagree. I'm not a huge ST fan either (hell, I only really liked DS9) but while I agree the new look was cool and yep the cast was good but as for plot holes? Didnt really see any to be honest and (without giving away too much of the plot here) it doesnt really lose any cannon, it just creates new (justifiably so imo) cannon - i.e the old stuff is still there, just...so is this! (you'll need to see it to see what we're on about!)
I agree happily with the laws of physics comment though! they were pretty liberal with it!
There you go folks, conflicted opinions - another reason why you need to see it....the power of controversy!

Okay i'll give you the cannon point Well the plot holes were tied in with some of the physics wierdness mostly but some were there ( i am pretty picky with films though )

I saw it today and it was brilliant! And this is coming from someone who is generally not a Star Trek fan.

I've never seen any Star Trek series, movie or whatever i only knew there are some klingons and some Enterprise ship But my college room-mate convinced me so i gave it a try, mainly because of J.J Abrams. In the end i was suprised, it was brilliant, however i can't imagine watching this on a small screen. Acting was very good and dialogues were really well-made. This movie has everything...action,drama,romance and superb characters. Abrams didn't try to hide, that he's a big fan of Star Wars, always showing space-ships in details I'm really looking forward to see the next movie.
