I don't think they have said yes or no to them being species we can chose to play. Just inhabitants that are in the SWTOR game as NPC etc.

Well, creatures and droids will be companion characters, screenshots are self-explanatory I hope that 2 humanoid races will become playable. Screenshots gave me kind of "playerish" feeling. They are made with same guns trooper use, so maybe this is a small hint .

Wow - a triple update. All the inhabidants look great (I have a feeling that we can have that hound and astromech droid as "pets"). I'm also really loving the Trandoshans. However, I have a terrible feeling that what we're seeing is NPCs and if so, then there's an even slimmer chance of seeing them as a playable race.

I don't see much since I'm at work but Gormak's wikia make me agree that they won't be playable. I'd like to see Doshans end up as playable tho.
EDIT: Nice new avatar, Harly

Oh bugger. Does that mean Sharho will have to be my main?... Not that he's a bad character, but I've grown attached to Skursir now...

No announce's been made yet so no need to despair... ^^, Take it on the positive side ^^,
EDIT: And you probably have more chances to get your doshan than SS to get his fallen :/

It's my experience that BioWare like to play with people and their expectations. It wouldn't surprise me to see humans pop up on that info wall somewhere down the line, blowing everyone's assumptions out of the water^^

Oh absolutely, thats why I've kinda made "The Big Boss" more of an out of game character. I think the chances of Falleen and Nex's Talortai are slim at best. Shame really. On the plus side there are some amazing aliens in the Star Wars universe so I'm sure there will be something for me when I come to creating my main Bounty Hunter.

I think the developer in Bioware Austin is have done hard choose with the playable species in the game and i think its time we will get some news what the playable races are.

Also, because this is an MMO we don't have to lose hope if our favourite species aren't available to play at Launch - that's what Expansions are for!
Plus, any model we see (for example the Trando there) means it can be modelled, has been modelled and therefore there is no real reason why it can't be a playable model. Only real difference between "npc" ones and player ones is that player ones tend to have more animations.

Yes but I do think some species are very specific (Fallen to mention them) and other are iconic (Doshan for examples) those second ones will have more chance to appear as playable. That's what is marketing-wise the most interesting.
Take SWG as an example, we loads of humans, zabrak and twi'lek, fewer wookies or doshan, sullustean, bothans and ithorians are very very rare as PC.

I keep thinking that with the game being so huge and thoroughly built, the VO will be a big hurdle for bringing out new playable races after release. They'd have to increase the work-load (and therefore development cost) for all future content because of the expanded number of PC VO responses every time they add a playable race.

Are we thinking that different playable races will use a completely different set of VO? I sort of presumed everyone would have the same class VO regardless of their race.

Aye you're right. I think the Devs stated somewhere (can't for the life of me think where the quote is now) that each class will have it's own set of VO's. They didn't say how many we can choose from though.

If a Trandoshan BH sounds exactly the same as a Human BH, I wouldn't want to play a Trando. And what about all those wanting to play Wookies?

I was looking for the link but couldn't find it. I think each class had a male and female voice, making 16 different sets of voice overs for playable characters. Adding more voice over sets for other races seems like a hell of a lot of work. This doesn't necessarily rule out different playable races, but probably means you won't be playing a wookiee any time soon.

No non-basic speaking races apparently But I'm definately certain they'll be in the form of companions, much like ol' Chewie. As for the Trandoshan bit - yeah, they definately need that special hiss. But do you guys think I should bump Sharho up to my main? I'm pretty uncertain about this after seeing the Trandoshan page and forum speculation that they'll only be enemies...

Exactly my point. And with BioWare's attention to detail in going to such lengths to make each human's voice sound different for each class, I would be very surprised if they didn't take the same care in making each race's accent sound different, like Harl says. Barring near-humans ofc^^

For non basic-speaking characters, is it not possible they will just use a subtitle option like they did in KOTOR with the Selkath? Its the same game-designers after all.
