In a similar line of thinking, the character creation screen had been reported to be similar to Dragon Age: Origins, in that its tiered (presumably you pick your faction, which opens the second tier of available classes, which opens the third tier of available species).
I'd be cool with that actually and it does make a lot of sense.

Yay Chiss I was just wondering where they were, I 'm wondering if were going to have species specific to certain classes? I certainly hope not.
Yup, 'fraid they are mate.

Christine then goes into announcing additional playable species for specific classes (previously, the Rattataki was announced as a species choice for Bounty Hunters). Without any additional details, he notes that Imperial Agents can play as Chiss, while the Smuggler can be a Twi'lek.
Crap, so are we going to get a number of core species then or will it just be humans for all and one species for each class :/
Sigh well I was going to have Ril as a Rattataki imperial agent but since she can't be I may have to rethink her, if we dont have any Zabrak then I may just change her to a BH and drop Jylan

We don't know for definite how many species will be available to each class but according to one article stated in this thread (I forget which one) there will be loads of species to choose from, it just doesn't tell us which ones are available and to whom.
I'd be surprised if Rattataki aren't playable to for example the Sith Warrior/Marauder though. Seeing as Asaj Ventress is the key icon of that race and she's a duel-wielding badass that would be very strange. I'd hold out for now and see what happens mate.

Awesome interview thanks Smudge.
Well thats pretty much confirmed who does what in advanced classes!
Bounty Hunter - Ranged DPS or Ranged Tank
Sith Inquisitor - Healer/ CC or Double bladed DPS(?) - That one is still a bit hazy!
Imperial Agent - Support/Light Heals/CC or Ranged DPS - Jack of all trades.
Sith Warrior - Melee Tank or Duel-wielding Melee DPS
I'm now left wondering what to go for!!! CC is still a job I love doing though so I suppose it could be either for my BH.

Good to see we were pretty much right on the money.
The fact that they've mentioned every class has the ability to heal (even if it is just themselves in some cases) I wonder if each will be able to supplement all roles to a lesser degree? A Bounty Hunter who can act as Crowd Control or an Imperial Agent Tank for example...
It looks (especially from the list above) that certain classes definately lend themselves to certain roles or even excel at them, but it would be nice if the classes could mesh in a more complex manner.
Like having an MT (Main Tank) in WoW played by a Warrior and an OT (Off-Tank) played by a Druid, that sort of thing.

There were a few announcements. Firstly everyone gets a ship, this ship is like your home base. The ships are big enough that they have various rooms, and will change and progress with your players progression.
A misguided assumption or hint that ships will be customizable? You decide!

i hope they'll be customizable like in terms of what you want in your ship and where and not just like preset packs like: poor, middle, or rich type of deal. xD always hated stuff like that.

Rob Chestney comments on the new combat video shown at E3.

Hey guys,
This is a great thread and it's nice to see so many of the discussions that take place within BioWare echoed among the fans. I'm actually in the booth now helping play through these demos (as the Jedi Knight--woot!), and this thread grabbed my attention. A lot of good points have been made already here to clarify what the multiplayer demo implies and what the takeway is, but I think it's worth a few more comments:
- For the purpose of this multiplayer demo, we wanted to keep the 'team combat dynamic' simple and easy to understand. Furthermore, the Consular acts as the healer and as the 'camera' for the demo, so she isn't necessarily playing exactly as she would in a normal playthrough. We wanted her to stay back from the action to provide a wide-angle view of the entire scene. Thus, where she might have run into to strike a few blows for righteousness in a regular group battle, she has to minimize that to keep the view right.
- One of the other things to keep in mind is that these are level 8-10 level characters, and none of them have begun to train as "advanced classes". New strategies for team combat develop as characters get new skills, get higher level powers, and select specializations. Keep in mind also, that the demo is designed so that people who may not be MMO veterans can understand it also.
- There also seems to be some confusion about the primary classes being locked into primary roles. The Sith Warrior has two advanced classes; the Juggernaut and the Marauder. One is a better track for a 'tank', the other is more of a damage-dealer. The paradigm of advanced classes is designed to provide branching options so that all primary classes have at least two options for the types of role they will play in groups. Beyond that even, there are further specialization/customization options that will give characters additional variety in the types of roles they can play.
To sum up, don't assume too much from one example of four-player team combat that we're showing at E3. We hope you like the team dynamic we're showing to folks here, but we don't want you guys to read too much into it. At a later date, we'll definitely try to show you some different strategies and team dynamics so you can get a better idea of the breadth of the experience of team combat in TOR.
Eventually, we look forward to you guys getting your hands on the game to find out for yourselves!
Thanks!!
