| OK, so this isn't 'technically' a guild event, but its an event which may involve the guild, so I feel justified putting it here! This is primarily for our UK-based Guildies, but if any of the rest of you fancy a trip I thought I would mention.... The Star Wars Cabaret Night 2010!Its at "The Talking Heads" pub in Southampton (Smudge knows the area ) on the South Coast of the UK and prices range from £8 - £12 and here is the original email I got: - Info@thetalkingheads.co.uk wrote:
Come one come all to The Star Wars Cabaret!
Ever wonder where the female Stormtroopers were?
Ever wonder about the lengths vadar went to to make the Deathstar more environmentally friendly?

| Pah, schools... We never had schools when I was a kid. We had to sit in a cardboard box and use slate and chalk. Kids these days... | |

| Ah, the Talking Heads Pub. Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. Probably wouldn't be able to make it, what with exams looming. | |

| Sounds good... I was on Hoth sneaking in Echo base and teaching some of those rebels scums a lesson or two... An epic success for my first heroic instance ever in SWG. ((Another proof that Spy is the easiest class ever in SWG at least with a nice stated armor.))
All this to say I'm not jealous and I don't regret having to stay here in France :'( | |

| Well the Cabaret night was a shed-load of fun but alas, the vast majority will be lost on here as I only have images to show which make up only part of the comedy! Basically it was a low-budget parody of what happened to the characters after the films, how they coped with having to return to mundane lives after being heroes/villains of the galaxy. It involved comedy sketches about the characters interspersed with musical numbers and burlesque dancing. They did some rather unusual (but nonetheless hilarious) interpretations of the now 'out-of-work' Star Wars characters... ( Click on the images for larger versions) DARTH VADER: Is angry, embittered, and attempting to take over the Galaxy his way now that the Emperor is out of the way, but is having very little success indeed. He's played by a guy in black with a bucket on his head! 'LUKE' and OBI-WAN: Obi-wan is dead (thanks Vader!) which he constantly reminds people of and spends the majority of the show explaining to people that, being dead, he can't be held accountable for anything. Luke is not luke at all, which he mentions when he first arrives saying "The Agency is all out of Lukes, its May The 4th after all..." and is actually a slack-jawed dim-witted Elton John lookalike... PRINCESS LEIA: Is not unlike the comedy version from Spaceballs. Like 'Luke' she is terribly dense but is also spoilt and passive-aggressive HAN SOLO: Is played (simultaneously) by the comedy duo of Rayguns Look Real Enough who, apart from singing about Star Wars, also have all the "scruffy nerf-herder" style jokes YODA: Is played as nonsensical and barmy as he is in the Dagobah sections of the film and spends his post-film time handing out rubbish advice and being the game-show host for "Star Wars Family Fortunes" (see later). He's played by a guy in green and an outfit which I assume is meant to be a rock (those are his little yoda legs I believe) but which looks more like a dress made of vomit THE DROIDS: The two famous droids are basically played by an INCREDIBLY CAMP C-3PO and a hoover called 'R2-Dyson'. Of all the characters C-3PO steals the show the most with his catty behavior and quick one-liners. R2 doesn't say much, he's a vacuum cleaner... *** The Music: The music was supplied by Rayguns Look Real Enough and were excellent music-mashups of lots of different songs done in a comedic manner. I admit I wasn't sure I was going to like it to begin with but the guys have such exceptional vocal range and comedy timing that I couldn't help but laugh. Its all done in a very "Flight of the Conchords" style. Alas they don't have the star wars songs on their site yet, but hopefully that'll change because they were pretty damn awesome! The Dancing Girls: The Burlesque dancers weren't bad, but are not the best I've seen by a long shot. They're also not the slimmest of girls either, but then again not everyone is into that kind of thing. Their dancing was well done as was the stripping, and for their faults I have to say they were pretty brave to get up in front of loads of SW nerds! (no leia bikini dances or twi'lek's though, alas...) The Comedy Sketches: There were 3 main sketches and many smaller ones but they all dealt with what happened to the characters after they finished in star wars and fell from the public eye. Most of them went into television, going on shows like: Celebrity Come Dine With Me: and Star Wars Family Fortunes: Overall it was a really enjoyable night; the bar served many star wars drinks from 'Blue Milk' to 'Tattooine Sunset' and I went with a mate of mine and hung out with a group of really nice lasses (yes, girls at a Star Wars thing!). It was definitely worth the meager £12 I paid to go! Some more random pictures: Yoda trying in vain to explain the ways of the Farce to 'Luke' More C-3PO campness Obi-wan quizzes 'Luke' about his attire The ever-wise Yoda | |
