E.P.O.C.H. Holonet (Chatroom)

Announcing our very own multi-room chat interface,

E.P.O.C.H. Holonet

As of 22.09.10 this chatroom will be available for all Agents, Guests and Allies to conduct in all forms of Chat-Based Roleplaying here on the Agent of the E.P.O.C.H. Website.

A quick thank-you to Cai Durkin of The Praxeum for recommending the chat as well as those people who contributed to its purchase and also Special Agents PrioryJK and Soude for helping me set it up / embed it on the website.

Accessing the Chatroom:
You can access the E.P.O.C.H. Holonet by simply putting in your username and (if you wish to enter any other room except 'OOC Lounge') a password.

Doing so and pressing 'Login' will take you into the chat.

IC and OOC rooms:

Any room with (IC) in front of the name is considered an "In-Character" or "IC" room. Anything written in this room is considered to be 'said' by your character. Please make sure that you login using your character's name when you wish to go into an (IC) room. (Please see more information in the RULES FOR ROLEPLAYING IN CHAT & DYNAMIC RP section)
Each (IC) room has a password to stop unwanted visitors from disrupting RP proceedings.

Any room with (OOC) in front of the name is considered an "Out-Of-Character" or "OOC" room. You can say whatever you wish in here (so long as it is not in violation of our Site's Forum Rules). (OOC) Rooms have no password, anyone is welcome to log in.

Rules for use of the Chatroom:
All the rules listed in the RULES FOR ROLEPLAYING IN CHAT & DYNAMIC RP section should be adhered to while using the E.P.O.C.H. Holonet. As some guests/allies will not be aware of these, a copy of these rules will be posted up in the appropriate sections soon.

A note on Userames:

Please remember that while you can login using your site name (eg: Lunarwolf) into any OOC room, please remember to login using your character name (eg: Aleina Fel) into any IC room.
ALSO: It should go without saying but please don't be foolish enough to try and log in impersonating someone else, all I.P. Addresses are logged so we know who you are

The Various Rooms (& Their Passwords)

This is not an exhaustive list by any means - it will be updated as new rooms are added and please also be aware that unique rooms (with their own passwords) are likely to be used in various RP games....

LIST OF OOC ROOMS:

OOC Lounge
Password: None

The Out-of-Character Lounge is essentially the same thing as the 'Chatbox' on the site. Anyone here is welcome, and can post whatever they wish, regardless of whether it is star-wars related or not. However, please follow the rules of our website while doing so.


OOC Officer's Suite
Password: (Classified)

A place for the Officers & Leaders of the Guild to chat about secret plots and galactic domination......probably.

LIST OF IC ROOMS

Non-Specific:

Agent Secure Channel
Password: 110209 (The date this site was created)

This is a special channel for Agents only, and should be considered for all intents and purposes a 'real' communication channel, a secure audio-holonet feed that the Agents use to talk to one another. For example if Lunarwolf and Soude were in this room, the discussions that went on in there would be between Chief Operative Fel and Special Agent Caryington.

Offworld
Password: space

Please use this room for when your characters are in space aboard starships, either stationary or travelling. Things such as space-stations will most likely have their own rooms.

Coruscant:

The Hyperion Club
Password: hc

An exclusive nightclub & Pazzak casino located in Upper Coruscant. Has a strict no-weapons policy.

Azure Towers
Password: at

Officially the headquarters for "Azure Lost Persons Agency", this 30-storey building is actually an Embassy Hall for The E.P.O.C.H. Agency's allies and more trusted clients.

Korriban:

Odal Temple

The training complex and Headquarters of the Force Adepts of The E.P.O.C.H. Agency

Sith'ari HQ
Password: (Please contact the Sith'ari)

A room for our allies at the Sith'ari to use, between this and the OOC Lounge, we want them to feel they're welcome here as our allies and it allows them to get involved more in RP as they currently have no chatroom of their own.

when i switch to different forums and such it logs me out of the chat =x if thats happening to everyone maybe it would be better just to leave it as a floating window. if its just a problem for me like the dice roller then its w/e i can deal with it

Aye it will do that, because its embedded code.

You could open a 2nd EPOCH window (that's what I do), use the 'right-click / open in new tab' option, or login then use the 'float' option.

Alternatively I can alter it so it 'auto-floats' when you log in. (No rude jokes please :p)

New Room Added: OFFWORLD

Thanks to Dy for suggesting this, though initially I think I misunderstood what she meant. Since that point I realised that we could do with a room that represented just being "in space" so that we can do games on starships (be they big capital ships or little shuttles all zooming through Hyperspace or in orbit around a planet).

I have no idea why I didn't understand this at first (Sorry Dy, I must have been having a stupid moment) but it has been added to the list of available rooms. Please see the original post for password.

Maybe we could plan some RP nights for people to meet up for Hyperion or Poisen pits parties

Every Friday? Saturday?

Maybe on a day were people might not tend to be out as much as usual so maybe a weekday?

Weekends are out for me due to work, but I can normally do Monday or Tuesday nights. I'm normally free in the day time now as well. Saying that we've just lost a club so I'll probably be free a lot more.

How can I change my name in chat room?

I can be on chat from 16.00-22.00gmt on work days.

QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT:

CHAT-LOGS can only be stored for 24 hours, after which time they are deleted automatically by the Chatroom. If you wish your logs to be saved, please ask an admin to do so, otherwise they are 'auto-pruned' OR you are free to 'cut and paste' the words into a word processor program as you play.

To quote the exact chatroom wording:

Current UK Time (GMT) reads 05:00:00 AM
Current US Time (EST) reads 0:00:00 AM

Though we are working to sort this out for now this is what we have to work with.


QUICK QUESTION

As some of you have probably noticed, with the Chatroom being built into the site if you click on any of the internal links (like clicking on one of the 'latest topics') then it logs you out of the chatroom. This is because the Chatroom is currently made into an embedded script - moving away from the front page causes this script to stop working and therefore, you get logged out.

There are some ways round this, the most obvious of which is to open two instances of this website and use one to log into the chat and the other to navigate the site.

I do have another idea however, and wondered what people thought of it?

Rather than having the Chatroom where the chatbox is now, we could have a "chatroom image" which worked as a Hyperlink. When you click on it a 2nd page would open (like a pop-up) containing the chatroom. This would leave the original page still in place so you can use it to navigate the site.

Is this something people would prefer? (It can be implemented with relative ease I think)

Sounds good and easy to do.

i like idea with chatroom image

The chatroom itself can't have a background or anything I'm afraid... (well not without upgrading the account) but I was hoping for a kind of "banner" you could click to open the chatroom in a pop-up, thereby leaving the actual EPOCH site free for people to click links...

Oh! and lots of new sounds have been added to the Chatroom - go check 'em out
